Major burn injuries consist of damage to the body’s tissues caused by heat, chemicals, electricity, sunlight or radiation. There are three types of burns:
- First degree, which damages only the outer layer of skin
- Second degree, which damages the outer layer and the layer underneath
- Third degree, which damages or destroys the deepest layer of skin and tissues underneath
Burn can cause:
- Swelling
- Blistering
- Scarring
- In serious cases, shock
